Bio

Michael Kast is an experienced photographer with over 40 years of practice. While he received some formal instruction at secondary and post-secondary levels, a substantial part of his expertise is self-taught across various photographic disciplines and mediums. His photographic work has been exhibited in several locations, including Ontario, Saskatchewan, different regions of British Columbia, and Prince George, including the Omineca Art Centre. His latest exhibition was the "Morning Walks-New Perspectives" show in the Feature Gallery of Studio 2880.

In addition to his photographic pursuits, Michael has also been actively engaged in radio hosting, being a podcast host (Arts North and Culture Confluence), and contributed as staff and volunteer for local access television. He is also a former member of both the Community Arts Council and Radio Society.

Artist Statement

"My process is pretty organic. The concept evolves and takes on a life of it’s own. I then decide on the tools I will use to bring the concept to fruition. I often push those tools to the limit and beyond, always seeking new and interesting ways to use them.

There were some hardships and challenges earlier in life that, early on, forced me to create my own  reality and then later, learning to maintain the wonder of a child as I looked outside myself at the rest of the world. This reminder to view things as a five year old has, more than anything, helped me to not only view things with curiosity but also with gratitude. It has helped me grow as a human being and as  an artist."
